LID UP OR DOWN

Is it etiquette to put the lid down after using the toilet? I'm sure this is the "proper" thing to do. For one, I've heard that a single flush can send germs flying feet from the toilet, potentially covering every surface in your bathroom, toothbrush included. Ok, I'll admit that is pretty gross if you think about it. But what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, right?

My husband has always been good at putting the seat down. Growing up with two men in the house, there was a 25% chance the seat would be up and a bare bottom would end up in the toilet. Cold, wet, and just plain gross. So I truly appreciate the seat being down. However, when I was about 5 months pregnant my husband developed a habit of putting the LID down too. While this may seem to be the proper thing to do , I find it incredibly annoying. ESPECIALLY when I am pregnant and have to get up to pee about 3 times every night. I don't know how many times I sat on the lid in the dark. I then developed the habit of feeling the toilet before sitting to ensure it was ready for use. This is dangerous business in itself because who wants to touch the toilet? Now, you may be asking why I didn't turn the light on. Well, I didn't want to completely wake up, did I?

I have repeatedly asked my husband to correct his new habit. He says..."Oh! Sorry! I don't know why I do that". Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? After about 8 months of begging him to stop putting the lid down, I took matters into my hands. I am ashamed to say this, but...I taped the lid to the tank of the toilet. That's right, I took a piece of packing tape and taped the lid UP. Hehe, that will teach him! The first time said husband experienced the taped toilet lid, he laughed. Ah ha! This will work. No more lifting the lid up. I heard a few more "You got me again" comments throughout the week, which encouraged me that one day I could remove the tape and be back to a lid up kind of life. Until one day I walked in and "dang it!" the lid was DOWN. Uggg. Now, I realize I am a little crazy to tape the lid up and it seems a little mean to do this to my husband. But, man, the lid down irritates me! Now, do I take the screwdriver and remove the lid completely or stop complaining and accept that the lid will be down until further notice?
